Tomato Bash 2013! Brockton, Ma Saturday August 17, 2013
The Tomato bash www.thetomatobash.com is a fun group event where people get together and throw tomatoes at each other for fun. The Beginning of the Tomato Bash: In 1945, during a parade in Buñol Spain, some teen agers who wanted to be in the parade, but were denied, staged a brawl in town’s main square. There was a vegetable stand nearby, so they picked up tomatoes and used them as weapons. The police arrested and forced those responsible to pay damages. The following year the young people repeated the fight on the same day in August, only this time they brought their own tomatoes from home. They were again dispersed by the police. After repeating this in the years that followed, the tradition was established. La Tomatina was born and is a festival that is held in Buñol, Spain today.
In La Tomatina participants throw tomatoes and get involved in this large scale tomato fight purely for fun. It is held in August during the week of festivities in Buñol. August 17, 2013 at TheTomatoBash we began with 15,000 pounds of tomatoes shipped to us from Hepworth Farms in New York. The crowd was remarkably well behaved, and in general they were a super nice group of people coming together just to have some good clean fun. There wasn’t one jerk in the entire crowd. Special mention must be given to Kevin, the Bunny from Nesquik who was so nice to everyone, and in spite of the fact that it had to be 110 degrees inside his super hot costume, he remained in character and made it so much fun for everyone who attended the Tomato bash. Also, the entire Nesquik crew were all super nice and super helpful and same goes for all the people who assembled to stage the 2013 Tomatobash. From the ticket takers all the way through to the referees, they were all nice, helpfuol, and nurturing and this made it so much fun for the attendees.
