Here is the bullet list of the Marriage License procedure.
– apply for a Certificate of Marriage at The Town Clerks Office at any city hall or town hall in Massachusetts.
-The town you apply to doesnt have to be the town where you live or where you are getting married.
-You cannot have someone else apply for your license. (There is a military exception )
-Blood tests are not required.
-Drivers license or a birth certificate will suffice for identification at Town Clerks office.
-Both of you must go to the Town Clerks office and show I D.
-If you are a widower you do not have to bring a death certificate.
-If you are divorced do not have to bring a divorce decree.
-There is a three day waiting period before you can pick up your completed marriage license ( after the ceremony is completed ).
-The license application is valid for 60 days from the day you first apply.
-Once you have a valid license, you need an Officiant to make your marriage legal .
-As your JP I do not have to pronounce you husband and wife.
-Officiant only has to
A) witness you becoming husband and wife and
B) file your license
-Officiant fills out your license and files it with the town clerk that you got it from.
We usually mail it.
-Once Officiant has filed the completed license, you might not automatically receive the official Certificate of Marriage.
-You might have to contact the Town Clerk where you applied for your license and ask if it is ready.
